I'm not planning on monetizing my publication, DIY Travel -- Freedom to Explore! anytime soon, if ever. I would like to grow my subscriber base, however, because I would like a broad audience who might provide feedback and possibly ideas that I can incorporate to improve my publication. Right now, my newsletter is pretty much my hobby -- combining the three things I love most (aside from my family and friends) are travel, taking photographs, and writing. I do all 3 here on Substack and it makes me happy that my subscriber base is growing, even if slowly.
Honestly that sounds like exactly the right reason to be here!
Writing about the three things you love most with an audience that can give real feedback, that's a pretty solid setup. Monetization can always come later if it ever makes sense!
Fascinating analysis! Perhaps the biggest lesson here, for me , is that creators should test their assumptions as rigorously as they test their ideas.
Yeah most creators stress test their ideas but not the assumptions behind how they're growing..
